Random Nashville

Finally my last blog post today is a few photos I've taken in the past few days around town. Nashville has great little spots all over the place that is a photographer's dream. The Arcade downtown is one of those places. Very unique.

This week in Music

So I had a pretty musical week here in Music City. Friday night the Avett Brothers performed at the Bridgestone Arena downtown. I've seen them twice before. The first time was at the War Memorial Auditorium, which is a VERY small venue...maybe holds 600? They were outstanding.
Saw them again a couple of years ago in Chattanooga...again...they were outstanding. (Wasn't crazy about the venue... and it held about 1,000). Then last year they performed 2 nights at the Ryman and both shows sold out very fast...so I didn't make that show. Now they had two nights at Bridgestone and they also sold out. My friend Luis had an extra ticket luckily so I got to go. I must say even though it was a HUGE place, they still performed in a very genuine intimate way...just like they always have. It was a fantastic show.
Then last night my crew of friends hit the Cannery/Mercy Lounge and saw the 80s cover band "Guilty Pleasures." This is the fourth time I've seen them, and I've enjoyed them each time as well.
If I understand correctly they are all for the most part members of other bands or do something else in the real world for a career and this is sort of a hobby...they come together and do. They are outstanding. Being Halloween they were all dressed in costumes...The Wizard of Oz and Peter Pan being some obvious choices in the photos. Then there's OUR costumes...just a big ole crazy mess. I'm a middle aged brownie...for lack of a better name. Barrett was a homeless guy (is that far from the truth?) and Kristin was the Hamburgerlar....Liz was a Greek Goddess, John was Pee Wee Herman, and Stephanie was a Hot Nun... Ryan was um...oh yea Ryan.

Fall in The Hood

This time of the year is so easy to just grab the camera and start taking photos. There is color everywhere you look, and sometimes it is in strange places. The shadows are also everywhere this time of the year, giving great images. These are just a few photos from the past few weeks as the leaves were changing in my neighborhood of East Nashville.

Calvary Cemetery Visit 2

This evening was gorgeous. I went home saw that it looked to be a great sunset and thought I'd head back to Calvary to see what the trees were looking like after the past few mornings of frost.
There was more color and the time of day certainly gave a different look from my last visit which was in the morning. The sky right before dark was almost a lavender.

Fall Break Hike 2011

Somehow I totally forgot to post the "REAL" camera photos from the hiking & camping trip at Big South Fork and Pickett State Park. My brain went on Fall Break with me I guess? Anyway here they are. It was a gorgeous day and we couldn't have asked for better weather.

Radnor Lake 2011

So one of the new things that happened to me on this walk through Radnor was being surrounded by 20 + wild turkeys. It was a bit unnerving...giving me flashbacks to the Jurassic Park movies. Especially creepy was the fact that they pretty much were acting like I wasn't even there, but at the same time you totally get the vibe that they were maneuvering around you and knew every move you were making... I felt better knowing there were lots of loud small children around and if there was a quick attack, I was going to be faster than any of those loud mouths. Anyway, it was a gorgeous day...too bad there were so many people there and so many loud kids.

Radnor Lake 2011 (iPhone)

So this is the time of year that
I find so many places to go with my camera and take photos of the beauty around me. It is really hard to take a bad photo when all around you see such great things...

This morning was just amazing. There was a light frost and the sun was warm.

Calvary Cemetery 2011

So here are the photographs I took this morning at Calvary Cemetery. It was around 10:45-12:00 noon when I took them, and the morning light was pretty amazing. It gave the types of shadows that only exist at that time of the morning during this time of the year. Good stuff.
Everyone should take at least one day out of the year and walk around a cemetery. It certainly puts many things into perspective.

Fall Morning (iPhone)

So each year around this time I make a visit to Calvary Cemetery to get photos of the Fall colors. I think I was about two weeks too soon this year. The leaves will be better then, and I'll probably make a visit back for more pics. Here is the first set from Calvary all taken with my iPhone.

Fall Break Hike (iPhone pics)

So this week is our Fall Break. The weather was PERFECT Friday-Tuesday morning...then it all of the sudden turned COLD! But my hiking/camping trip Monday & Tuesday with Tim was great and the weather was totally perfect. Here are a few images I took with the iPhone. They include a few from the drive there, images from Pickett State Park (In Pickett/Fentress counties), as well as our breakfast stop, and our hike at Big South Fork National Recreation Area (Twin Arches loop, which was a 7 mile hike).

iPhone Pics

So since my house was broken into a little over a month ago and my camera was stolen...I've been a little out of photography commission. During this time I switched over to the "dark side" and got an iPhone...which I love!
I've taken a few photos with the phone, and I've liked a few of them. Here are a few of the first ones I've taken with my iPhone.
